Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about ordering fabric, choosing the right foam, shipping, or upholstery services? We've put together answers to some of the questions our customers ask most often.

01 / SHOPPING WITH US

Ordering & Samples

Can I order fabric samples before purchasing?

Yes. Samples are available for many of our fabrics and upholstery materials. We recommend ordering a sample when color, texture, or material characteristics are important to your project. Sample availability and pricing may vary by product.

How much fabric should I order?

The amount of fabric needed depends on your project's measurements, fabric width, pattern repeat, cushion construction, and cutting requirements. Be sure to allow extra material for seams, matching patterns, and cutting waste. For larger or more complicated projects, we recommend consulting your upholsterer before ordering.

Can I order fabric in fractional yards?

Available purchasing increments depend on the product and its online ordering options. Please review the quantity requirements on the individual product page or contact us if you need a specific length.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to make a change. We may be able to modify or cancel an order before it has been processed. Once materials have been cut, specially ordered, prepared, or shipped, changes or cancellations may no longer be possible.

Can I shop at your physical store?

Absolutely. Visit Texas Fabrics & Foam at 1500 Texas Ave., El Paso, TX 79901. Our team can help you explore available fabrics, foam, upholstery supplies, and other materials in person. Contact us to confirm current store hours or the availability of a particular product before visiting.

Fabrics & Materials

Will the fabric color match what I see online?

We make every effort to display colors accurately, but differences in monitors, lighting, photography, and dye lots can affect how a material appears. For projects where color matching is important, we strongly recommend ordering a physical sample before purchasing yardage.

What is a dye lot, and why does it matter?

A dye lot refers to a particular production batch of material. Slight color differences can occur between batches, even when the product name and color remain the same. We recommend purchasing enough material for your entire project at one time whenever possible.

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor fabric?

Outdoor fabrics are generally engineered for increased resistance to sunlight, moisture, and environmental exposure. Performance varies by product, so it's important to review the manufacturer's specifications. Not every outdoor fabric is waterproof, and not every fabric is appropriate for marine applications or prolonged outdoor exposure.

How wide are your fabrics?

Fabric widths vary by manufacturer and product. Many upholstery fabrics are approximately 54 inches wide, but other widths are available. Check the product specifications before ordering, especially when calculating yardage or working with patterned materials.

Do you carry automotive and marine upholstery materials?

Yes. We offer materials for a variety of automotive, outdoor, and marine-related upholstery applications, including selected vinyls, fabrics, carpet, headliner materials, and supplies. Product suitability depends on the specific application, so contact us if you're unsure which material to choose.

03 / CUSHIONS & COMFORT

Foam & Custom Cutting

What's the difference between foam density and firmness?

Density measures how much foam material is contained in a given volume and is one factor associated with durability. Firmness describes how much resistance the foam provides when compressed and is often expressed using an ILD rating. Higher-density foam is not necessarily firmer foam, and firmness alone does not determine durability.

Which foam is best for seat cushions?

For many everyday seating applications, medium or firm upholstery foam is a good starting point. The best choice depends on cushion thickness, support underneath the cushion, frequency of use, and personal comfort preferences. Our team can help you compare available options.

Can you cut foam to custom dimensions?

Yes. We offer custom foam cutting for many cushion and upholstery applications. Provide the length, width, thickness, and desired firmness when requesting a quote. Custom-cut foam is subject to reasonable cutting tolerances and is generally final sale.

How do I measure foam for a replacement cushion?

Measure the length, width, and thickness of the cushion or the space the foam needs to fill. If the existing foam is compressed, misshapen, or deteriorated, its current dimensions may not accurately reflect the original cushion size. Consider the cushion cover's construction and consult our team before ordering if you're unsure.

Do you have foam suitable for outdoor cushions?

We may offer outdoor or reticulated foam designed for applications where drainage and airflow are important. Availability can vary. Contact us to discuss the intended use and current material options before ordering.

Shipping & Returns

How long does it take to process an order?

Most standard orders are typically prepared for shipment within 1–2 business days, although processing may take longer for special orders, custom cutting, or periods of high order volume. Shipping transit time is separate from order processing time. See our Shipping & Delivery Policy for details.

How are shipping costs calculated?

Shipping costs are generally calculated during checkout based on the order, package size, weight, destination, and available shipping methods. Oversized foam and other bulky materials may require additional handling or alternative shipping arrangements.

Will my fabric arrive folded or rolled?

Fabric may be folded or rolled depending on the material, quantity, packaging requirements, and shipping method. Certain materials may arrive with temporary fold marks or creases. Contact us before ordering if you have specific packaging requirements.

Can I return fabric or custom-cut foam?

Cut-to-order fabrics and custom-cut foam are generally final sale. Certain unopened supplies, eligible precut foam, and other qualifying products may be returnable within the applicable return window. Incorrect, damaged, or defective merchandise is reviewed separately. Please see our Returns & Refunds Policy for complete details.

What should I do if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

Contact us promptly with your order number, a description of the issue, and photographs when available. Keep the original packaging until the issue has been reviewed. We'll help determine the appropriate next steps in accordance with our policies and applicable law.

05 / LOCAL SERVICES

Upholstery Services

Do you offer furniture upholstery services?

Yes. We can assist with a variety of residential and commercial upholstery projects, including furniture upholstery, cushion replacement, and selected custom work. Contact us to discuss your project and request an estimate.

How do I request an upholstery estimate?

Contact our team with a description of your project, approximate measurements, and photographs if available. We may request additional details or an in-person evaluation before providing a final estimate.

Can I bring my own fabric for an upholstery project?

Customer-supplied materials may be considered depending on the project and the suitability of the material. Please contact us before purchasing or delivering fabric so we can review the requirements and any applicable service conditions.

How long does an upholstery project take?

Completion times depend on the scope of work, material availability, and our current production schedule. We'll provide an estimated timeline when reviewing your project. Lead times are estimates unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.

Do you handle commercial upholstery projects?

Yes. We can discuss upholstery needs for restaurants, offices, hospitality spaces, and other commercial environments. Project availability, material specifications, pricing, and timelines depend on the work involved.
